IS THE SYSTEM A MEDICAL DEVICE?

YES. Introduced in 1993 the system is an FDA listed, Class I medical device specifically designed for ring cutting, it is not a repurposed power tool.

DOES IT CUT ALL MATERIALS?

YES. The red diamond abrasive disc is used for hard metals, the blue carbide abrasive disc for soft metals.

WHY TWO ABRASIVE DISCS?

The red diamond disc will immediately dull if used on soft metals; the blue carbide disc will not cut hard metals and may be damaged.

ARE THE DISCS SINGLE USE?

NO. discs are used until dull or worn.

HOW MANY CUTS CAN I EXPECT FROM EACH ABRASIVE DISC?

Entirely dependent on the ring’s material, its width and thickness.

HOW THICK AND WIDE A RING CAN BE CUT?

25.3mm wide, 22.25mm thick.

WHEN TO MAKE TWO CUTS?

Hard metals require two cuts, 180 degrees apart while two cuts in soft metals (Gold, Sterling Silver) make repair possible.

WHEN TO USE THE RING SPREADER?

If the ring is made of soft metal and is not to be preserved, the ring spreader can be used to expand the ring a single cut.

WHY DOES THE HANDPIECE SLOW OR STALL?

The discs abrade the material layer by layer, if you press down too hard the system is designed to stall – use the lightest touch, do not press down.

HOW ARE THE SYSTEMS POWERED?

MODEL 522 is powered by a cassette of four standard, alkaline AA batteries.

MODEL 622 is powered by an AC adapter, it is not rechargeable, it must be plugged in.

WHY NOT USE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES IN MODEL 522?

Safety, rapid battery drain, cost.

DOES IT REQUIRE A SPECIAL COOLANT/LUBRICANT?

NO. Use surgical lubricants such as Surgilube®.

WHY USE A SURGICAL LUBRICANT?

Sterile for open wounds, nonabsorbent for intact skin, readily available, inexpensive, highly effective to lubricate, cool and trap debris from cutting.
